Good features but problems with execution Jul 29, 2010 This is feature packed GPS.
GPS itself is very good so far. Reason for 3 stars are as follows.
1. MP3 players hangs often, needing to restart. Changed the SD card but cant find solution.
2. FM transmitter is little weak, and it does not transmit the phone. So if you are listening to music, and get a phone call, you will hear the caller voice in GPS internal speaker and once the call is over, your music will restart with FM speakers.
3. Battery life is not good. Once on battery, you cant run music/bluetooth phone together.
4. One of the annoying feature about navigation- cant clear the route unless you go to page 3 of the preferences.
I Like the Tom Tom over the Garmin Jul 22, 2010 I have had a Garmin 265 for over a year. I struggled with their website to upgrade the maps. Instead of another Garmin, I bought a TomTom Go for my son. 100% easier to link to the computer, update, and add extras. Maps and voice commands are similar - but the ease of use linking to the computer makes it a much better choice. Of course, my son wants to add multiple voices and change them regularly. There just isn't enough internal storage for all the nifty add-ons they offer. The model he has accepts an external card, but we haven't tried that yet. Blue tooth option is easy to use as well.
Beware of application update Jul 20, 2010 I've been using TOM TOM GO products for several years with a great deal of satisfaction. Recently I have had to replace an old GO 910 and had some difficulty with replacements. Two problems have been identified with my new GO 730. Initially the unit connects with my cell phone and all is well. However, when I update the main application file through TOM TOM HOME, no outgoing calls through the GO 730 can be made. Reloading a backup file returns this functionality. This problem has been identified on a GO 740 and on two different GO 730's and with two different cell phones. I never had any problems with my old GO 910. When I initially tried to troubleshoot this problem with TOM TOM, both via email and phone, I got little help and was told the problem was caused by Verizon, my wireless provider. When I finally identified the cause of the problem, by myself, I wrote to TOM TOM and have not yet heard from them. The upshot of this is that if I want handsfree calling to work properly, which is required in Connecticut, I can't update the unit until TOM TOM corrects whatever bugs lie in their application update files.
Another problem I've noticed is that the mp3 player produces a high pitch background noise when the unit is externally powered. This occurs on two GO 730 units and a GO 720 unit but did not occur on my old GO 910. Different power supplies were tried with no change in the background noise. The noise is not present when the GO 730 is internally powered. Adding a magnetic noise suppressor to the power wire also had no effect.

Dosn't work in the city - don't bother with this unit Jul 13, 2010 I have had the 730 for a few weeks now. It works well on the highway and I like the voices you can download. The problem I am finding with this unit is that it doesn't work in the city. The streets are to close together for this unit to figure out what street you are on. Also the GPS signal strength is week and it can't pickup the satellites when on a street with trees on both sides.

Like having a local give you directions Jul 05, 2010 I bought this unit for my job, which requires driving up and down the east coast to places I've never been. I can't say enough about how well it has worked for me. I live in Maryland but in the last three weeks I've navigated Philadelphia,Yonkers, Harlem, Manhatten, New Haven,CT, New Bedford,MA, Quincy,MA, Springfield,MA, upstate NY and the Eastern shore of Maryland. It has not only guided me nearly flawlessly, it has selected routes that avoided congested areas along the I-95 corridor near NYC that made me feel like a local, using the roads only locals knew about. I'm quite sure it has saved me hours of sitting in stopped traffic, instead sending me up some scenic route that was a pleasure to drive. When I say "almost flawlessly" I refer to a time where I was directed down a road that some years ago must have gone all the way through, but now has trees growing where there used to be a road. (You could see the road continued on the other side.) I went back and turned in a direction I thought was taking me towards my destination, it recomputed a route, and took me there in a few minutes. Another time she (Susan) told me go the wrong way at a fork on the NJ turnpike but the signs helped me ignore her. You have to use common sense and not just follow blindly.
All in all I would highly recommend it.
-Other users have commented on a washed out screen in sunlight but the angle had to be just right for this to happen to me. I'm guessing if the dashboard is reflective this could happen more frequently.
-The mount has been excellent and sticks fast to my windshield. It has a large button on the back which allows you to slide it off the mount easily.
-The charger does charge slowly when the system is in use, faster when it's off.
-This unit alerts me to red light and speeding cameras 150 yards in advance, which are common in the money hungry state I live in.
-Blue tooth is OK but road noise tends to be an issue and people seem to have a hard time hearing me from time to time.
-It has the capability of lots of voices but only Susan, the computer voice, says street names and exit numbers so I use her exclusively. She occasionally pronounces names wrong (amusing) and chuckles when she says "Yonkers" (Who wouldn't?)
-Excellent screen with the advanced lane guidance that tells you which lane to be in at splits and exit ramps. I really like this feature.
-It has never frozen on me in sleep or any other mode. (Oops, I just jinxed myself.)
I love this thing and would buy it again or recommend it to others. Especially since the price dropped 30 bucks since I bought it last month. (That always happens to me!)
