The LC40LE700UN illustrates Sharp's LCD technology leadership while also demonstrating its LED engineering advantages. Sharp's Ultra Brilliant LED system illuminates the TV to extremely high brightness and contrast levels and enables significant environmental benefits such as longer life expectancy, no heavy metals and lower power consumption. At the same time, the new XGen LCD Panel utilizes an ingeniously devised pixel design that permits more light to pass through even while minimizing light leakage, with the result being the deepest black levels that AQUOS has ever achieved. Overall, the LC40LE700UN shows that with Sharp, it's not just LED… it's AQUOS LED. | | | |

Colors are terrible Sep 06, 2010 I'm not sure I'm a fan of the LED technology when you get a cheap-o TV. I guess I got what I deserved for not checking out the TV before buying it on the Internet...
The pre-set factory colors were awful -- yellow is green, people's faces are purple. There are LOTS of settings to adjust, but no matter how I play with the colors, I'm never happy overall with the way it looks. What's strange is, with the LED technology, the colors actually change as the picture changes -- I noticed this especially when subtitles appear and go away at the bottom of the screen.
I also secretly suspect that this TV was made purposefully bad as this was the precursor to the 'quadpixel' tech that 'corrects' yellow...

Great TV, but lacks two basic features Aug 20, 2010 I bought this TV because I wanted two things: a good-quality picture, and the ability to play game consoles without any noticeable lag. This TV does both very well. It has stunning picture quality, and the game mode handles my old 480i XBox console, connected via component inputs, with no noticeable lag.
On the downside picture-wise, I am not 100% satisfied with how the TV reproduces mostly-dark levels. Black is plenty black, but dark gray, dark blue, dark brown, etc. also get "sucked" into black. The average person probably wouldn't be bothered by this, but it can be a little annoying to the discerning eye. Adjusting contrast and brightness helps, but only at the expense of lightening the deep blacks. If you love sharp contrast between dark and light, you'll love this TV. If you're picky and want to see, for example, details in shadows, give this TV a test-run before buying it.
I was quite surprised to see that this TV lacks two of the most basic functions of a TV: it has no clock, and the remote has no program guide button. Obviously, this TV is intended for people who have satellite/cable since those services have programming guides. But over-the-air digital TV also broadcasts program information, and there's no way to access that information on this TV. So if you watch over-the-air TV, you'll still need to have a clock and a TV Guide nearby.
Despite these drawbacks, I'm giving this TV 4 stars because of the excellent picture quality overall, and how well it handles my antiquated game console.

Uncertain start Jul 25, 2010 When the AMP error first appeared, I didn't know what it referred to. Amplifier
was the first thought but then I thought it could also be AMPs on the power line.
I finally asked [...]. They immediately contacted their local agent, Geo Meyers,
and the service was immediate. They brought two replacement boards with
them but neither worked. They arranged for another appointment. The next time
they brought another board. No luck. They suggested and I agreed that it would
make more sense for them to take it into the shop. They brought it back within
two working days. This was all done under the 90-day warranty. They made three
trips(not short)but they did it willingly and were always in touch with me by
phone for any news.
I must first compliment Sharp for providing such prompt service. The TV seems to be
working well but I've not used it for a full week yet. From time of purchase to
actual delivery was longer than expected, almost two weeks(but it was free!)
It's taken almost another two weeks for the TV to actually be enjoyed.
If I encounter no more problems, it was a great bargain. I could write a better
review in six months.

great picture Jul 25, 2010 I had a Samsung LCD tv that died so I needed something to replace it. After checking with Consumer Reports I went with this one. It's one of their top rated and I agree. After checking around I found the lowest price at Amazon. com. My Samsung used to get hot quickly and the Aquos doesn't heat up at all. I'm still trying to figure out all the settings but that's my fault, not the tv's. The picture quality is great. I would recommend it.
